General Information

“The Contracting Parties confirm that genocide,
whether committed in time of peace or in time of war, is a crime
under international law which they undertake to prevent and punish.”

– 1948 United Nations Convention on the Prevention
and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide

For more than 50 years, genocide scholars have called for an organization
that would concentrate its efforts on practical measures to prevent
genocide. The Center for the Prevention of Genocide seeks to fill
that need.

Combining high academic standards and advanced
technology, the Center brings nonpartisan, non-religiously affiliated
information to policymakers and the media, with the goal of preventing
genocide.

The Center for the Prevention of Genocide
monitors international hotspots for indicators of genocide, develops
resources – people and organizations – who report and confirm
massive human rights violations, commission satellite images of
the area as evidence to corroborate the reports, and facilitate
the evidence to the UN Security Council, UN member nations, the
media, and departments within the US government.
